Stoke City manager Tony Pulis has expressed his wish to keep Thomas Sorensen at the club for the foreseeable future despite the Dane losing the no.1 spot at the Britannia Stadium.

Sorensen was first choice goalkeeper for the Potters at the start of the season, but Asmir Begovic has usurped him and seems to be in control of the position.

Pulis is desperate to keep hold of the former Sunderland and Aston Villa ‘keeper though.

“We would love Thomas to sign a new deal,” he told reporters.

“His agent has been on so we would love to get that done if we can.”

With Carlo Nash also at the club, Pulis is delighted with his goalkeeping options.

He continued:  “I think our three are as good as any in the league.

“Are they part of our future next season? I would be disappointed if they are not.”

Pulis rates his current first choice shot stopper Begovic very highly, suggesting he could be determined to keep him at the club.

He added: “The kid is an exceptional goalkeeper.

“He has all the talent you would want. But he is young, inexperienced and he is going to make mistakes like he did at Birmingham.

“We have to take that on the chin, be careful with him and give him as much backing when he needs it, and as much support as he can get.”
