Petrol prices will not be increased in spite of the surge in the price of crude oil on the world market currently pegged at $113 per a barrel.

Deputy Information Minister, Samuel Okudzeto-Ablakwa, said the government would continue to maintain the current price levels to ensure that the increase in the price of crude oil did not have a crippling effect on the public.

Mr. Ablakwa, was speaking at the launch of a new range of mobile lubricants for the Allied Oil Company in Accra yesterday. He said the government was sensitive to the plight of Ghanaians and would therefore, continue to subsidise the prices of petroleum products to curb any further hardship on the people.

Mr. Ablakwa said that the government spent 10 million dollars every two weeks to cushion the effect of the increase in the price of crude oil which he attributed to the political unrest in North Africa and the Middle East which had affected the world market price.

But despite the increases, he said the government was determined to maintain a stable petrol prices to avoid any further burden on the people.
