Club Africain will relaunch football in Tunisia on Friday against APR

The first official match to be played in Tunisia since the country’s revolution will take place on Friday.

Local side Club Africain will host APR of Rwanda in a delayed African Champions League first-round tie.

Fans will be allowed to attend the game in the Rades Stadium outside Tunis, although entrance will be restricted by the club.

The Tunisian authorities say they will make a decision on whether to allow the league to restart following the game.

Football in the country was suspended as it was engulfed by political protests which resulted in the ousting of President Zine al-Abidine Ben Ali.

Demonstrations have continued and the interim Prime Minister and two ministers have resigned in recent days.

The first leg of the tie ended in a 2-2 draw in Kigali and Club Africain will be hopeful of making it through to the next round.

The team have continued training throughout the recent unrest and have played a number of friendly matches behind closed doors.

Five members of the squad were part of the victorious national team which took the African Nations Championship title in Sudan last month.

In the wake of the revolution Club Africain held fresh elections and a new Chairman and Board of Directors was appointed.
