Charlie Sheen has officially broken the ‘Guinness World Record’ for accumulating one million Twitter followers in the shortest amount of time.

Charlie Sheen, the troubled American actor whose recent antics have created media frenzy, has been honored by ‘Guinness’ for breaking a Twitter world record, reports Usa Today.
After setting up his Twitter profile on Monday (29th February 2011) it took Sheen just 25 hours and 17 minutes to reach one-million followers. It has been reported that the actor was helped by a team of experts at ‘Ad.ly’, a small Los Angeles company specialising in celebrity endorsements via Facebook and Twitter. The team spent several hours on the phone with the actor, explaining the tools of Twitter and how to best build and audience and keep them engaged. Guinness World Records released a statement earlier today (3rd March 2011) that read, “Guinness World Records today confirmed a new record for the fastest time to reach 1 million followers on Twitter is 25 hours 17 minutes, achieved by Charlie Sheen (Usa) between 1-2 March 2011”, adding, “Guinness World Records is excited to continue expanding the number of social media records it holds and looks forward to new records emerging from the rapidly evolving world of social media”.

Charlie Sheen’s record comes just two weeks after the American rapper Lil Wayne gained the most ‘likes’ on a single Facebook post in 24 hours, with 588,243.
