Lorient president Loic Fery has warned potential suitors that the club have ‘made considerable efforts’ to keep star striker and reported Arsenal target, Kevin Gameiro, at the club.

The forward has been in fine form for the French side so far this season and has attracted a great deal of interest from clubs around Europe, with Arsene Wenger reportedly amongst those targeting the 23-year-old.

Although Fery accepts that the £15 million-rated striker could leave the club in the summer, he insists that the Ligue 1 side will do all that they can to keep their star forward.

“He has 18 months remaining on his contract so we can imagine three possibilities – he will remain until the end of his contract, he will be transferred next summer or he will extend at Lorient,” Fery told L’Equipe.

“Let him go at the end of his contract, transfer him this summer or extend his deal at Lorient.

“We’ve made considerable efforts – so far unsuccessfully – to try to extend his contract. I have not given up. Nothing is ruled out.”

Fery also revealed that the club had received offers in January, but although the club do not want to stand in the way of their star strikers ambitions, any deal would have to be in the best interests of the team.

“I can understand Kevin wants to aspire to something else. If, at the end of the season, we can help him to reach a new sporting level, we will do it, but not at the cost of the club.

“In January, Lorient could have given its agreement to some offers, but there was no agreement with the players. As long as there is no consent between the three parties, the contracts will be fulfilled.”
