The volatile relationship between Jim and Liz McDonald has seen the couple marry and divorce twice and seen the ex-soldier violently attacking his ex-wife.
But it appears Coronation Street villain Jim (Charles Lawson) is still holding a candle for the mother of his children as he returns to the cobbles in an explosive new storyline.
The ex-convict is so desperate to win back the affections of his ex-wife, he attempts to rob a building society so he can buy the Rovers Return from their son Steve for her.

The Northern Irishman ends up holding customers and staff at the building society hostage at gunpoint.
The explosive storyline paves the way for actress Beverley Callard’s exit from the soap after 22 years on-screen.
Liz was last seen leaving Weatherfield in disgust after finding out builder boyfriend Owen Armstrong (Ian Puleston-Davies) had beaten up Jim in December, joining Steve’s twin brother Andy (Nick Cochrane) in Spain.
But she will return to the cobbles on March 14 and play a major role in Jim’s building society raid.

Liz and son Steve (Simon Gregson) are called to the scene by armed police in a bid to negotiate with desperate Jim as he is holed up in the building.
The actors were spotted filming the scenes – which are expected to be screened around Easter – in Manchester today.

But it looks like Jim won’t get away with it as he is seen being coaxed out of the building without his weapon.
Soap fans have speculated Liz may end up with Jim again – if he manages to escape another jail sentence.
Negotiation: Jim’s ex-wife Liz (Beverley Callard) and son Steve (Simon Gregson) are called to the scene in a bid to persuade him to give up
Speaking about her forthcoming exit, Callard said: ‘It’s a fantastic
exit and it’s absolutely massive, but Liz may not be leaving on her
own.’
Lawson quit the soap in 2000 after 11 years of playing bad-tempered
father-of-two Jim.
Off-screen his
character went in and out of prison over the past decade, briefly
returning to Weatherfield in 2003, 2005, 2007, 2009 and most recently in December 2010.
Last year, the actor and his partner Debbie Stanley opened a farm shop in the village of Prestbury, Cheshire.
