Spate of petitions worry Oko Poly rector

AWKA – Rector of Federal Polytechnic Oko, Anambra State, Prof Godwin Onu, has expressed concern over the sudden resurgence  of petition writing and rumour-mongering in the institution.

The Rector, who alongside Chairman of the Governing Council, Dr. Anene Uzuakpunwa, addressed the Polytechnic community, wondered why such attitude should resurface now that the management had introduced programmes that could keep staff and students busy.

According to him, the malicious petition writing and rumour-mongering tend to frustrate development

It was gathered that a large number of petitions alleging mal-administration in the institution had flooded the Federal Ministry of Education, Abuja.

Onu, who regretted that such  portrayed the institution in a bad light, said: “We have tried our best to reposition this institution.  Petition writing may be a common practice here before now and that is why we have devised means of keeping all minds busy with academic activities.”

‘’This attitude is not what we need now for the growth of our institution especially now that we are striving to gain our rightful status of University of science and Technology.

“I have worked cordially with my dynamic and responsible Council members to achieve what ever we have today .
“They have tremendously supported my programme and given me so much encouragement. I can do nothing without them, so people should leave us alone to concentrate and give the Institution the best it deserves.

‘’ People should face their academic activities and not rumours and malicious petition writing. Its been a father and son relationship with the Chairman. A father knows how  to descipline his child when he gets it wrong.

“The Management and the Council are working together for the progress of this institution. We have a cream of council members who are committed to the positive development of this institution and I assure you of their integrity to move this place forward”.

He said on going rapid infrastructural development  in the three campuses was his sincere contribution to the speedy development of the institution and urged staff and students to reciprocate by working hard for maximum productivity.
