Liverpool defender Martin Kelly will be out for up to a month with the hamstring injury he picked up on Sunday against West Ham.

The right-back had to be substituted in the first half after he pulled up in a sprint for a loose ball, and will now definitely miss matches against rivals Manchester United and both legs of the last 16 meeting with SC Braga in the Europa League tie.

He is also unlikely to face Sunderland in the only other Premier League encounter of the month, while the match against West Bromwich Albion at the beginning of April may also come too soon.

It is a disappointing injury for the England Under 21 defender, who has impressed over the past two months since Kenny Dalglish took the helm at Anfield.

The manager will be hoping for better news on fellow injury doubts Daniel Agger and in particular Raul Meireles, who has been in fine form since the turn of the year.

Dalglish will also be hoping that record signing Andy Carroll will be fit for a place on the bench against United.
