Ghana Football Association president Kwesi Nyantakyi has confirmed the country is not in contention to host the 2011 African Youth Championship.

The political turmoil in Libya has claimed the championship which was due to begin on 18 March and there have been suggestions Ghana could step in to host the tournament.

But Nyantakyi, elected as a Caf Executive Committee last week, says the reports are untrue.

“Libya we all know is currently undergoing lot of changes and therefore CAF invited interest countries to express their readiness to host the championship but at no time was Ghana asked to host the championship contrary to media speculations,” Nyantakyi said.

”As far as I know it’s South Africa and Algeria who are in contention to host the tournament and CAF will take the decision on it soon to put the issue to rest.”

The continent controlling body will take a firm decision on which country will replace Libya as hosts on Tuesday.

Ghana last hosted the African Youth Championship in 1999.
