Wolverhampton Wanderers boss Mick McCarthy expects this seasons relegation scrap in the Premier League to go right to the final day of the season.
McCarthy’s side moved out of the bottom three with a 4-0 hammering of Blackpool on Saturday, and also saw West Ham beat Liverpool on Sunday.
With the bottom eleven sides in the league covered by a mere six points, McCarthy expects that in a season of unexpected results – Wolves themselves have beaten Chelsea, Liverpool and both Manchester sides – the race to beat the drop will go to the very end.
“It’s been a strange season because there have been good results for the lower teams against the top teams” said McCarthy.
“Looking at the league at the moment, I think there is no doubt it will go right to the last game of the season.
“I would hope that is going to be the case because I can’t imagine us getting out of it in the next five games.
“It is going to take all the 10 games – and it’s the same with all the teams.”
And whilst McCarthy believes that it will be tight for all concerned, he feels his side have what it takes beat the drop.
“I still think we will get out of it, I still think we will get enough points.
“I do think we have got a strong squad. I think we’re a better team than last season – but the Premier League is stronger.
