Former ELECTRIC PRUNES and SMASHING PUMPKINS bassist MARK TULIN has died, aged 62.

Tulin, an accomplished deep-sea diver, collapsed and died while helping out at the Avalon Underwater Clean-Up event on Saturday (26Feb11).

He was the Prunes’ original bass player and was with the group when they tasted chart success in the mid-60s with psychedelic classics I Had Too Much to Dream (Last Night) and Get Me to the World on Time.

He quit the group in the late ’60s but was part of a reunion in 2001. He was part of the group when they released critically-acclaimed album Feedback in 2007.

Tulin’s death has hit Smashing Pumpkins leader Billy Corgan hard. In a tweet to fans on Monday (28Feb11), the rocker writes, “I had planned this week to go through all the SP demos of the past 2 years, and of course Mark is playing on almost all of them.”

Tulin joined Corgan and the Smashing Pumpkins in 2009 as a temporary bassist.
