Roma 2-2 Parma: Amauri Inspired Ducali Come From Behind To Stun Olimpico

Roma fell victims to a heartbreaking comeback as Parma managed to earn a point at the Olimpico after trailing by two goals. Francesco Totti opened the scoring from the spot and Juan doubled the hosts’ advantage near the half-hour mark to give the Giallorossi a two-goal cushion at half-time.

Amauri turned the game on its head with a brace in the second half and Massimo Paci was sent off ten minutes from full-time. There were no more goals, however, and the game ended 2-2.

Roma made their intentions known right from the start and were looking to score the opener early on. Daniele De Rossi and Totti in particular were very active in attack with the captain spectacularly nutmegging Stefano Morrone in the 8th minute before unleashing a shot from distance.

‘Il Capitano’ had valid claims for a penalty turned down three minutes later after Gabriel Paletta clearly fouled the striker inside the box. Cristian Brighi did not hesitate to point to the spot three minutes later, however, when Alessandro Lucarelli brought down Rodrigo Taddei. Totti ruthlessly put away the penalty, giving Roma a well deserved lead.

The hosts continued to dominated the game in the following minutes and soon doubled their advantage. In the 35th minute Parma conceded a silly corner and Juan proved to be at the right place at the right to stab in after some dreadful defending by the Ducali from this set-piece.

David Pizarro was taken off the pitch after picking up a nasty injury right before half-time as Roma entered the break with a two-goal lead.

After mustering only one shot at goal in the first period, Parma raised their game in search of a way back into the match. Antonio Candreva blasted a wonderful shot just over the bar four minutes after the break, signaling the Ducali’s intention.

Vucinic reminder of Roma’s attacking strength with a powerful shot from distance in the 56th minute and just after the hour mark Totti saw a precise finish claimed by Mirante after a blistering run. However, it was Parma who were about to strike first and so it happen in the shortly after.

In the 74th minute, ex-Juventus striker Amauri scored a wonder goal as he backheeled a Francesco Valiani cross from around eleven yards out into the net. The Brazilian did not stop there, however, as five minutes later he scored again after some downright comical defending from a set-piece on Roma’s behalf.

Just as Parma thought they could actually win the game in the end Massimo Paci was sent off for a second yellow card for a foul on Menez only a minute after Amauri’s strike. Substitute Blerim Dzemaili almost found the winner for the visitors with a great strike from distance, but it was not to be as the game finished 2-2.

Following today’s result Roma are sixth in the standings with 43 points, while Parma are sixteenth with 28. The Ducali’s next league game is a visit to Chievo on the 6rd March, while the Giallorossi travel to Lecce two days earlier.
