Robert Pires confident of earning new contract with Aston Villa

After improvements in his recent form, Aston Villa midfielder Robert Pires is confident he can earn an extension to his contract.

Pires returned to the Premier League last November to sign for Villa on a free after leaving Villarreal but he struggled to adapt to life back in England initially and appeared to clash with his team-mates in January.

However, Villa’s recent improvements have coincided with an upturn in form for the Frenchman and he hopes he can do enough to convince Gerard Houllier to offer him a contract into next season.

“I can’t play every game because I am old but I love this club and the players,” Pires told the Daily Mirror.

“We need to talk with Gerard Houllier for next season. Why not? I am ready.

“It is a very good team.

“I know Gerard Houllier, he is French as well and I want to help this team.

“Villa have young players so I am here with my experience and need to bring stability.”
