Ben Foster has heaped praise on defender Roger Johnson following Birmingham City‘s 2-1 League Cup final win against Arsenal on Sunday.

Obafemi Martins pounced on a mix-up in the Gunners’ back line with just a minute remaining to win the cup for the Blues, who had man of the match Foster to thank for a number of saves in the match.

Johnson joined from Cardiff in June 2009 and his accomplished displays have linked him with a move away from St Andrew’s.

Foster has been impressed by his centre-back and admits he is not surprised that other clubs are interested.

“Roger is always key for us,” Foster told reporters.

“He’s been a huge part of our team.

“You see the teams he is linked with week in week out, and it’s justified really.

“Some of his performances have been absolutely fantastic and he’s a very big player for us.”

Foster concedes that every player has their price but is hoping Johnson will stay at the Midlands club.

The 26 year-old added: “With the amount of money some teams have, everybody has their price.

“We need him playing for us, doing the job he does for us. You can see the look on his face every game he plays.

“He loves it, he loves to be in front of the firing line and getting involved, so that will hopefully keep him at the club longer.”
