Mahmud Razek scored the only goal of the game for Zamalek to win

Zamalek reached the second round of the Champions League on Sunday when beating Kenya’s Ulinzi Stars 1-0 in Cairo.

The Egyptians won the game thanks to a second-half strike by Mahmud Abdel Razek after a dour opening 45 minutes.

The White Knights advance 5-0 on aggregate after winning the rescheduled first round, second-leg tie.

The game should have taken place two weeks ago but was postponed because of the revolution which overthrew President Hosni Mubarak.

The first leg of the tie took place in Nairobi whilst the Egyptian capital was engulfed by protests.

The authorities in Cairo allowed fans to go to the match, which was played in the city’s Military Stadium.

It is the first official game in Cairo since the revolution took place.

Players from both teams wore black armbands in memory of people who were killed in the popular uprising.

Meanwhile, Wydad Casablanca of Morocco also progressed to the second round despite losing 1-0 to Ghana’s Aduana Stars on Sunday.

The home side were hoping to overturn a 3-0 first leg deficit and when Bernard Dong Bortey converted a penalty on 37 minutes Aduana were confident of completing a turnaround.

But the 1992 champions held firm with resolute defending late in the game to advance 3-1 on aggregate.
