President Kufuor on Wednesday February 23, honoured an invitation by President Mills to hold talks on issues of national interest at the castle.
Ex President Kufuor described the meeting as cordial and fruitful without disclosing the details of the meeting to the press.
Prominent individuals including leading members of the NPP have already commended both statesmen for the meeting describing it as a good sign for Ghana. Some have also described the meeting as significant and important.
However, speaking on Citi FM’s Saturday political talk show the “Big Issue”, Ms Ursula Owusu praised former president Kufuor for accepting President Mills’ invitation to the castle.
She was however hesitant in praising President Mills for inviting former president Kufuor saying the President is in a “fix” and needs advice hence his decision to invite President Mills for discussions.
“We have no idea exactly what was discussed but since President Mills found it necessary to invite President Kufuor, we can all conjecture that it is because he is in a fix, he has come to the end of the road and doesn’t know what to do, he needs advice on how to fix the economy, manage the polarization of the country, solve the mess that he has created for all of us. He didn’t call Jerry Rawlings because he probably values the advice of Kufuor than Rawlings that is why he didn’t call him (Rawlings).
However, the Deputy Majority leader in Parliament, Hon Rashid Pelpuo disagreed with Ms Ursula Owusu. According to the Wa Central MP, the decision to invite ex President Kufuor is a very good sign for the image of Ghana and must not be politicized.
He noted that President Mills must be commended for his decision because no other President has been able to hold closed door talks with the former President from an opposition party in the history of Ghana. He added that President Mills is not out of ideas but is only focused on ensuring that he delivers to Ghanaians the better Ghana he promised.
