THE Queensland opposition said an attack on a police officer this weekend highlights the need for mandatory jail for all serious assaults on police, ambulance and fire officers.
The officer was hospitalised following an alleged assault in Brisbane’s party district yesterday morning in which he was allegely jumped on and punched after trying to break up a fight.
He was taken to Royal Brisbane Hospital for tests and treatment to non-life threatening injuries.
A 24-year-old South Brisbane man faced court yesterday over assault charges.
