Witches Storm Market

Traders at the Abesim Market, near Sunyani, have abandoned the market following the suspicion that a group of witches have invaded the market.

The traders claim that their businesses are collapsing and people refuse to buy from them because of the evil spirits that have turned the market centre into their meeting place.

They have refused to continue to ply their businesses at the place for fear of losing their capital.

Some of the women told Daily Guide that they had lost their capital under strange circumstances, and would therefore not risk moving to the market centre to ply their trading activities until something was done about the situation.

Following this development, the traders have taken over the road sides and the Abesim Lorry Park and have turned them into selling places, thereby affecting other commercial activities in the town.
The Chief of Abesim and Kyidomhene of the Dormaa Traditional Area. Nana Kumi Akyeaw II, who confirmed the report to Daily Guide, said the market women lodged a complaint with him in the latter part of last year when he made an attempt to move the traders into the market.

He said the traders raised the same issue recently during a forum held by the Member of Parliament for the area, Kwasi Ameyaw-Cheremeh.
According to Nana Akyeaw, he had referred the matter to the Christian Council which has started praying to salvage the situation. He said the pastors had gone to the market centre twice to pray to cast out the supposed demons so as to reclaim the market for the traders.

Aside this, the chief said members of the Christian Council met at the Abesim Presby Church every Friday to pray to redeem the demons-infested market.
