Kaduna – The management of the New Nigerian Development Corporation (NNDC)  – the publishers of New Nigeria, Thursday, denied owing its 250 pensioners any unpaid increment.

This was coming after the heavy presence of the Police and State Security Service (SSS) Thursday,  at the premises of the NNDC headquarters  which may have intimidated the pensioners who had promised to picket the building should they not be paid what they claimed was their  unpaid pension increment since 2000.

The Management Board of the NNDC  later met, and issued a Press Statement  saying they were not owing their former workers.

The pensioners, under the leadership of Moshood Giwa, has been claiming that the NNDC had refused to pay the 142% approved increment for  pensioners since 2000, and insisted that all the arrears be paid.

While the close-door session was on, the management of the NNDC came up with a Press Release denying owing the angry pensioners any unpaid increment.

“All existing Pensioners of the company including those who had recently retired from the service of the organisation have been duly paid all their entitlement and as such no pensioners is currently owed by the company.

“As a tradition, the company review the pension payable to its Pensioners as and when the need arises taking into consideration the fact that NNDC depends solely  on its internally generated revenue to finance its operations and other overhead as opposed to Federal Institutions that receive subvention for the payment of pension and benefits of Staff”, read the statement signed by Mohammed Haruna, Deputy General Manager, Corporate Relations of the NNDC.
