According to him, Nana Akomea totally missed the point because President Mills is a great leader who rises above the ordinary.
The Member of Parliament for Okaikoi South, Nana Akomea, on Wednesday told the New Crusading Guide that he doubts the sincerity of President Mills’ meeting with his immediate predecessor, Mr. Kufuor.
“First of all, by the President’s own admission, the invitation was sent at very short notice. It was sent only after the State of the Nation Address. A typical case of PR Management afterthought,” he said.
According to Nana Akomea, the Mills administration spent the first two years disgracing the former President and pouring scorn over the wonderful transformation that Ghana went under in the 8 years of Kufuor government.
“Why has it taken them two years to throw an invitation to him? The President has been pretty slow on this. Instead of fostering unity and showing respect some youth of the region were encouraged to physically evict the former President from his office. Government took away his vehicles; refused to give him his ex-gratia and lied that he left a broken economy,” he added.
But speaking on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana, Alhaji Inusah Fuseini countered that President Mills rather shown how great a leader he is by inviting the former President to the Castle, even at the risk of his invite being snubbed. The NDC MP, who regarded ex-president Kufuor as a true statesman, lauded him for honouring the invitation and slammed the NPPs Communication Director as someone who dabbles in pettiness.
“Nana Akomea has missed the point completely. President Mills is a great leader who can rise above the ordinary and put to rest the agitations and concerns within his party and there has been consistency in the president’s comments…he said he has become president of this country to serve the country…the national interest of this country must be paramount…Nana Akomea has not even credited President Kufuor by saying that he sat back and allowed himself to be manipulated. Credit your leaders with wisdom, intelligence, talking about this meeting in such a derogatory way casts a slur on Kufuor,” he fumed.
To him, the invitation extended to the former President was in no way a PR gimmick as being portrayed by Nana Akomea, but indicative of the fact that though people might belong to different political parties, they should not be divided by their partisanship.
