CAN to partner NUJ on April polls’ debate

    OWERRI – Imo State chapter of Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, has said it would partner with the state council of Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, on the proposed debate for candidates seeking various elective offices in the April general elections.

    Similarly, the Association of Imo Indigenes in the United States of America, under the auspices of Imo State
    Congress of America, has also offered to provide technical support for the planned outing.
    State NUJ Chairman, Chief Fidel Onyeneke, disclosed this while briefing journalists in Owerri on the outcome of the consultative meetings he had with leaders of the two organizations.

    He said: “The group from America promised to provide technical support to ensure that the highest possible standard for such a crucial debate is maintained to enlighten and guide the Imo electorate to vote wisely,” Onyeneke said.

    The Imo NUJ boss further explained that the debate was in the interest of all Imo indegenes to enhance good governance and the socio-political growth of the masses.

    He said:“Imo State governorship candidates of the political parties will feature in the first debate on Thursday, March 3, 2011, and it will be carried live by radio and television stations in the state.”

    He assured the public that Imo NUJ was determined to spend its time and resources to provide the electorate the opportunity to have a closer contact with those who planned to govern them.
