AWKA— SENATOR Annie Okonkwo, who recently dumped the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for Accord Party, AP,  during the flag off of his campaign in Awka yesterday,  said his desire to return to the senate was to enable him complete projects he already began, including the creation of a state out of the South East, the issue of erosion control in the zone, as well as improvement of infrastructure and empowerment of youths in the senatorial zone.

He said: “I want to return to senate because we have unfinished business, including the issue of creating another state out of the South East to bring the zone at par with other zones in the country. For not having the additional state, the South East zone is losing billions of naira every year and this is unacceptable to us.”

Okonkwo also pledged to pursue vigorously his scholarship  scheme which, he stated, had helped over 100 students in tertiary institutions and the micro-credit scheme for widows, rural women and co-operative groups.

He also said that if re-elected, he would work with his colleagues in the National Assembly to prevail on the federal government to begin without further delay, the exploration of the oil reserves in Anambra State, to facilitate the state becoming one of the oil producing states in the country.

State chairman of AP, Prince Innocent Igboekwe, described Accord Party as a vehicle which God wanted to use to console those who had been cheated in other political parties and urged the people to vote for its candidates as they  were experienced politicians.

Okonkwo assured his teeming supporters that Accord Party which is relatively new in the state has all it takes to actualize his aspiration.

The flag off exercise was attended by thousands of  Accord Party supporters from the seven local government areas of Anambra Central senatorial zone.
