MINNA—The Etsu Nupe and Chairman of Niger State Council of Traditional Rulers, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar, has been appointed as the Chairman Niger State Inter-Religious Council by  Governor Babangida Aliyu, who warned perpetrators of religious violence to pitch their tents outside Niger State.

He said his administration would resist the occurrence of any form of religious crisis in the state.
Speaking  during the inaugural ceremony of the Council at the Government House, Minna, the Governor explained that that the council became necessary to forestall a replica of the killings, maiming and burning of property in the name of religion as being recorded in some states.

He said: “There is need to take pro-active steps. We must not allow a situation where people will be killed in the name of religion.”

Aliyu also seized the opportunity to canvass the need for religious leaders to thoroughly educate their followers on the need for religious tolerance.
