According to him, the company is working around the clock to fulfill its promise to stabilize power in Accra within 18 months as ECG is investing a total of GH¢80 million to complete over 30 projects in the region.
He said the company will effectively respond to complaints from customers to enable them have value for their money. Mr. Fiagbor made this known during a press conference held at the ECG conference room in Tema to address certain challenges confronting the company and to update the media and the public about some of the latest development in their system.
The Regional Director specifically mentioned areas such as Lashibi, Prampram and Sakumono where power outages were frequent especially during the Christmas, adding that it will be improved by the end of the year.
He however said that the Attorney-General has given authority, Executive Instrument (EI) (Appointment of Public Prosecutions Instrument, 2010) to the company’s solicitors to prosecute cases in respect of offences related to the supply of power, explaining that three law courts in Accra have been designated specially to handle cases related to the supply of electricity.
Mr. Fiagbor noted that ECG intends to replace about 95% of credit meters with prepaid meters by December, this year and also aims to cover Prampram District by the close of the year.
Touching on power theft, the Regional Director was quick to add that ECG is losing significantly with regards to illegal connection, disclosing that drastic measures are being put in place to arrest and prosecute offenders. He indicated that ECG has promised to reward each informant with six percent of illegal units recovered through tip-offs or other means.
