The Convention People’s Party (CPP), is demanding a release to the party, the building housing the Information Ministry, as the CPP claim it is one of the party’s assets confiscated by the government.

To this end, the party would be picketing the Information Ministry tomorrow.

Speaking to Emefa Apawu, host of the Big Bite morning show on XFM 95.1, a privately owned commercial radio station in Accra, the party’s National Youth Organiser, James Bomfeh says the CPP is also demanding the return of other assets acquired during the party’s era.

James Bomfeh says, “we are raising the issues to demand through all legitimate means the immediate return of the assets of the CPP which include the Ministry of Information building, the Police headquarters in Sunyani and the Police headquarters in Koforidua”.

Mr Bomfeh adds that some other commercial properties of the party “that the party really needed to mobilise resources” were all seized.

He says the members of the CPP and not the government acquired these properties so they have every right to demand them for true reconciliation.

“We think that the proper thing to be done if we all believe in proper and true reconciliation, the CPP must be given its due; and the return of these assets is something that is non-negotiable. It is the way out.”

“Of course we have also got to factor in the long years of deprivation of the CPP for the usage of its assets what must be made for that loss and I think we would then begin to heal this nation properly and put it on a pedestal where all of us… would believe that in oneness and with a good sense of purpose, we all are destined in this country to be one people.”

Meanwhile, the party is set to commemorate the overthrow of the government of Ghana’s first president, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah on February 24.

James Bomfeh reveals, the celebrations will commence with a candlelight vigil tonight at the Party’s headquarters after which the party will hold a program dubbed ‘Ghana’s Day of Shame’ on February 24 at the Accra International Conference Center.

“We will have some of the old folks come to address members who actually contributed to the development of these assets.”

As part of activities leading up to the picketing on February 24 this year, the youth of the party shall be embarking on a signature campaign to affirm the Party’s commitment to the mass of the people in some selected areas across the country.
