HOST OF Peace FM’s Entertainment Review programme, Kwasi Aboagye, has condemned Jackie Appiah over statements she made about the Ghana Movie Awards’ car she co-won with fellow actresses Yvonne Okoro, Juliet Ibrahim and Roselyn Ngissah.
Jackie reportedly said she was opting out of the decision making as to how to share the car with the other co-winners.
“Since the four of us can definitely not drive the prize car, my initial suggestion would have been that we could sell it and share the proceeds amongst ourselves. Indeed I had plans to give my portion to charity,” the actress had said.
Kwasi Aboagye, who was mad at Jackie’s statement, noted that her claims were unnecessary, interpreting her statement to mean “she does not like the car.”
Kwasi Aboagye declared, “Today I also want to express my opinion about this movie award car issue. I will tell Jackie my mind. Some people say Jackie went to Nigeria, some said she went to Egypt and that was why she couldn’t go for the movie awards car presentation ceremony.
My investigation shows that she didn’t go anywhere, she was in Ghana, making herself as champion Attah,” he stated.
But after she was alerted that the car could not be sold until after a year, Jackie further said, “The four of us worked tirelessly on set during the shooting of the movie to bring out the best, culminating in this award.
We all had to work together to achieve a common purpose. We were like sisters and respect each other.
However, it is obvious that the four of us can definitely not drive the same vehicle and since we are also not allowed to dispose of it, then with all due respect, I humbly opt out of that decision making and leave it to my three other colleagues.”
According Akwasi Aboagye, “Somebody organized his movie awards. Prior to that, the movie industry had always been yearning for a movie award and always referred to Ghana Music Awards.
The first edition has been organized; yes some of us had problems with it, but we are pushing it to at least 5 editions so it becomes ok. Somebody organized his award and said he gave founders award.
“Even though some of us don’t understand it, that one car can be given to four people, for me the car is just an endorsement and you, Jackie, alone came out that you don’t like the car. Why don’t you like it?
“Who are you that you don’t like the car? If we are talking about likeness then Apostle Kojo Sarfo is Juliet Ibrahim’s in-law and so is Jackie saying he can’t buy a car for Juliet Ibrahim.
It is not about you coming out to tell us that you don’t want the car because you have a Range Rover, or you have a limousine. We know you have cars but don’t let your other colleagues feel that they alone need a car.
“What kind of nonsense is that? If the truth is there, let us say it. Whoever advised Jackie to come out to make that statement that she does not like the car, that is nonsense.
It is just an endorsement and you must go through with your colleagues. Let’s do things to look beautiful. When you all go through it, when next time someone wants to use a car to support the industry, the person will have the courage to do so.”
Kwasi, who sounded angry, noted other issues relating to the alleged ban on Yvonne Nelson and Jackie’s alleged feud with Nadia Buari.
He said, “It was because of Jackie that Yvonne was banned and Jackie also caused the fracas between her and Nadia Buari.”
His statements allegedly caused a stir in Jackie’s camp. A source said the actress was really mad at Kwasi for his pronouncement, but she has since not reacted publicly.
