Popular and veteran referee Major Rtd George Lamptey has died at age 82. The honorary member of Caf’s Executive Committee passed away at the 37 Military Hospital in Accra after being bed-ridden for a month.
He was former Ghana Football Association chairman from 1975 to 1977 and was also a life member of the Referees Association of Ghana.
His first son Joseph Lamptey is a Fifa referee and was recently involved in an incident where he allowed a handball goal to stand in the Caf Champions League.
