The Ghana Football Association says they are expecting Michael Essien to end his international hiatus next month.
The Chelsea ace in August last year temporarily withdrew his services for the Black Stars after suffering a number of fitness problems including a knee injury.
But the midfielder has since recovered and featured for his side in the English Premier League.
Essien last played in a Ghana shirt at the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations against Ivory Coast where he picked up a knee problem.
The Ghana FA hopes the 28-year-old will stage a return for the 26 March qualifier and the friendly against England three day later at Wembley.
“Michael Essien sought permission to stay away for a while and we are very hopeful that he will be back next month month when we play Congo Brazaville,” president Kwesi Nyantakyi told Joy FM.
“He’s very useful and an integral member of the team and his inclusion at another time will add value.”
