The woes of coach Herbert Addo keeps aggravating with fresh criticism coming from Ghana Premier League boss Welbeck Abra-Appiah.
Ghana for the first time since the 2006 Nations Cup have been eliminated at the group stage of the CHAN competition where the Black Stars had finished as finalists in the first edition two years ago in Ivory Coast.
The hugely disappointed Ghanaian fans have shelved majority of the blame to coach Herbert Addo who some few months ago applied to manage the Black Stars proper.
It was a very fine opportunity for him to justify the Ghana Fa made a wrong choice in overlooking him for the job that was eventually handed to Goran Stevanovic but as it appears, he has rather kissed that prestigious opportunity a definite goodbye.
While the majority of criticisms are directed at the Aduana Stars coach, some also feel the quality and structure of the Ghana league system which is one of the lucrative leagues on the African continent is to blame for the woeful showing of the team in Sudan.
However League boss Abrah-Appiah has rubbished those thoughts and went further to identify the coach as the main problem behind the poor showing. “No one can convince me otherwise that our league is not well organised and with great quality,” Appiah said.
“There are quality players all over our league and who is responsible for selecting and merging these talents into a formidable side? Its definitely the coach.
The PLB capo also disclosed he will be making a strong suggestion to the top hierarchy of the football administration not to hand any national team job to any coach managing a league side. According to him, there is always the tendency to select players on a whom-you-know basis rather than competence.
“I will be speaking to the President and other members of the GFA not to give any national team job to a coach managing a league side. “Aside having divided attention, there is always the tendency to select players from his team to the detriment of others who would probably be the best for the nation.
“That’s why is am confident David Duncan would do well in his new national team role because he is not coaching a league side.”
