The state-owned Sunday Mail reported that Zimbabwean president Robert Mugabe is in Singapore for a medical exam.
The newspaper quoted Mugabe’s spokesman George Charamba as saying :” The president left for Singapore on Friday. He went for a review following a small medical procedure he underwent while on holiday in that country. He had a cataract in his eye so that was removed and he was asked to return by opticians”.
Mugabe’s office last year dismissed rumours that he had undergone a prostrate exam in Malaysia as “naked lies”. Mugabe has been the subject of many rumours concerning his health and mortality in the past decade, yet he has proven his doubters wrong many a time. Mugabe is due back in the on February 21, when he will celebrate his 87th birthday.
His Zanu-PF party has nominated him to stand as its presidential candidate in elections to be held later this year.
