Ghana goalkeeper Richard Kingson will be reinstated in the Blackpool starting line-up for Saturday’s league match against Aston Villa after losing Paul Rachubka to injury.
Kingson is Blackpool’s last remaining option in goal with fellow shot-stopper Matt Gilks still on the treatment table but his recent slump in form is a major concern.
Rachubka, who replaced Kingson as number one last week and tasted a 5-3 defeat at Everton, suffered a potentially serious damage to his right knee in Thursday’s training session for the Seasiders.
The 29-year-old appears to have aggravated the same problem which kept him out of action for the first-half of the season and the Tangerines are now awaiting the assessments.
Blackpool are seeking permission from the Premier League to sign a new goalkeeper. And manager Ian Holloway is hoping to be allowed to bring a new custodian to Bloomfield Road on an emergency-loan basis. “We are going to have to try,” Holloway said. “Richard won’t mind me saying this – he is probably more patched up than anybody I’ve got in my squad.
“He is a wonderful lad, but he was injured last week when he split his head open, and he had a bad knee the week before that. “So I think we can easily prove that we are a little bit short and hopefully common sense will prevail. “We reported it straight away and I’m sure we can prove we need another one in – it’s just who, and from where.”
