Anthony Annan is pleased to have left Norwegian club Rosenborg for a bigger stage at Schalke, but the Ghanaian midfielder is disappointed that he was unable to secure a move to Spain.
In an interview with Norwegian magazine Fotbal, the 24-year old said: “I was surprised when I got to the plane on transfer deadline day and found that it was headed for Germany.”
“I am a little disappointed that I did not have the chance to play against Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.”
The former Rosenborg man was hoping for a move to Sevilla, but that fell through when the Spanish club opted to purchase Schalke’s Ivan Rakitic, and die Knappen swooped for Annan.
However, he did manage to compliment his new team: “Schalke are a great club. It was a great experience to play in front of 80,000 fans in Dortmund.”
Finally, Annan commented on his new salary, which is in the region of €1.5 million per year.
“I deserve more than I received in Norway. But I’m not getting the salary that I had hoped for!”
Annan made his debut for Schalke in last Friday’s Ruhr derby in Dortmund. The 41-times capped Ghana international managed 76 minutes of play before his substitution.
