Aide to the New Patriotic Party flag bearer, Abu Jinapor is advising a vice chairman of the ruling NDC government, Dr Ekwow Spio Garbrah “to channel his energies into lobbying the Ahwoi’s and Anyidoho’s” for a ministerial appointment rather than attacking Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
Dr Ekwow Spio Garbrah, in an article on Thursday January 27th, described the NPP flag bearer as a man who has shown a lack of balanced judgment and equipoise in foreign affairs.
The Chief Executive Officer of the Commonwealth Telecommunications Organization (CTO) commended former President Kufuor for his past role in the crisis; and stung Nana Addo for not learning from his predecessor.
However, reacting to the article on Xfm 95.1, a privately owned commercial radio station in Accra, Abu Jinapor rather accused Dr Spio Garbrah of using the NPP’s flag bearer as a political launch pad to catch the eye of President John Mills to be given a ministerial appointment.
He questioned why Dr Spio Garbrah would not make his comment at the peak of the Ivorian crisis debate but would strategically make it when President Mills is doing his ministerial reshuffle.
To him, there is more to Dr. Spio Garbrah’s article than just a comment to a raging national issue.
“If you put the pieces together, any reasonable man will arrive at the conclusion that Mr Garbrah is working very hard to catch the eye of the president…You will agree that the president is engaged in an ongoing reshuffle of his government. You will equally agree that there is a lot of speculation in the media to the effect that Dr Spio Garbrah is being considered for a ministerial appointment.”
“So to make this comment at this particular time,… I think the reasonable conclusion anybody can arrive at is the fact that Mr Spio Garbrah intend to use Nana Akufo-Addo to catch the eye of the president,” he said.
He continued: “But I wish to use your medium to extend to Mr. Spio Garbrah a very humble advice; that he should rather concentrate on lobbying the Ahwoi’s, and Anyidoho’s and the rest whom we have been told by the founder of the party are responsible for appointment under President Mills”.
Describing the CTO Chief Executive’s comments as politically suicidal, Abu Jinapor says it will not inure to his benefit, adding that Dr Spio Garbrah’s piece is full of “inherent contradiction”, and asked, “When the president was appending his signature to the ECOWAS communiqué…was he not aware of the so-called presidential oath that he took?”
“Dr. Spio Garbrah should rather be educated rather than calling for an education for Nana Addo, because his piece is full of contradiction…He says former president Kufuor was an astute Head of State when it comes to diplomacy, and yet still thinks that the foreign minister who was the number one diplomat of Mr. Kufuor was not a good diplomat and is not a good diplomat as we speak now; a dramatic contradiction.”
To him, Dr. Spio Garbrah’s article should be treated with utmost contempt.
“By all intent and purposes I think Dr. Spio Garbrah’s article is much ado about nothing and should be treated with the contempt that it deserves”.
