Caf Bans Ghanaian Referee Lamptey After Champions League Blunder

    Ghanaian referee Joseph Lamptey has confirmed that he is serving a six-month Caf ban after his blunder helped Esperance to eliminate Al Ahli at the semi-final stage of last year’s Champions League.
    The Ghanaian official came in for stinging criticism after failing to disallow an early goal scored by Nigerian striker Michael Eneramo which eventually gave Tunisia’s Esperance a place in the elite competition’s final on the away-goal rule.
    Eneramo used his forearm to steer a corner kick home at the far post and enraged Ahli of Egypt.Esperance went on to lose the final to DR Congo side TP Mazembe. the visitors, who said they were unfairly treated by Lamptey.
    “I’m shocked at the decision by Caf but this is an occupational hazard so I will take it in good stride. My assistant referee didn’t help me but I will move on,” Referee Lamptey told Happy FM.
