A large number of NPP youth in Tamale on Monday January 24, embarked on a vehicle confiscating exercise to retrieve party vehicles in the possession of the old regional executives.
Former regional chairman Alhassan Adow was the first to lose his vehicle. His double cabin pick up with registration number GT 5141 X was taken away during the exercise.Other old executives who were secretly informed about the intended exercise hid their vehicles but the youth vowed to chase and retrieve them.
Spokesperson of the youth, Anyass Gazali explained to Citi News that the former executives soon after the 2008 elections sold the vehicles among themselves at cheap rate hence the exercise to retrieve them.
Meanwhile, reliable sources have hinted Citi News that the NPP Northern Regional Council of Elders held a meeting to resolve the seeming impasse between a cross section of the youth and the regional chairman, Alhaji Harunah Tia Sulemana Harumbis. A youth group in Tamale calling itself Northern Youth for Nana Akufo Addo recently accused Alhaji Harumbis of deepening cracks within the party in the northern region.
Regional Secretary of the group, Sulemana Sayibu Dokurigu asserted that Alhaji Harumbis was building the party structures around the Nana Addo, Aliu Mahama and Alan Kyerematen factions and warned that its adverse effects could affect the NPP’s performance in 2012.
According to sources, Nana Akufo-Addo, the party’s 2012 Flagbearer on his return from Bawku after attending the final funeral rites of Alhaji Malik, Bawku NPP Constituency Chairman, held a meeting with the regional executives to discuss party unity ahead of the 2012 elections.
An insider at the said meeting said Nana Addo advocated the need to hold a meeting with both the national and the northern regional executives to find solutions to the emerging problems in the area.
Dr. Clifford Braimah, Northern Regional Secretary of the NPP described as baseless the allegations levelled against the regional Chairman Alhaji Harumbis, by the Northern Youth for Nana Akufo Addo. He advised all NPP youth groups in the region against rushing to the media with their grievances and reminded them of their responsibility to use appropriate channels in solving their problems.
Dr. Braimah disclosed the party’s plan to demonstrate in Tamale against the Inspector General of Police, Paul Tawiah Quaye for his failure to arrest alleged NDC supporters who attacked two police officers during an operation conducted to clump down on the activities of reckless motorists in the Tamale metropolis.
