Prices of sachet water are up by 100 percent selling at 10 pesewas from its initial 5 pesewas. Even though some retailers still sell at the old price they are expected to increase the product following approval by the national association of sachet water producers.
Magnus Nunoo, president of the association justified the 100 percent price hikes, saying the recent hike in petroleum prices is one key reason for the new price.
He explained that the mode of distribution of the product is heavily dependent on trucks which use fuel.
He said the price of electricity, water and materials needed for the production of sachet water have all been increased saying there is a legitimate reason for a corresponding increase in the product. According to him, the price of the product has remained stable for over two years.
