A Social commentator and activist of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Samuel George has taken a swipe at the Chairman of the main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Jake Obetsebi Lamptey, describing as “funny and laughable” his comment that President Mills has reduced the image of Ghana internationally.
He reckons that the NPP Chair together with members of his party are exhibiting character traits of opposition elements who have lost touch with reality.
The National Chairman of the NPP in an interview with the New Crusading Guide newspaper blasted President Mills for beginning his “Action Year” with the bringing down of the International Image of Ghana. According to him, under the President Mills’ administration, both FIFA and IOC have either threatened to ban Ghana or have gone ahead to ban Ghana, because of political interference.
“There’s no doubt that Ghana’s image is sinking under President Mills. In two months, President Mills has ensured that both FIFA and IOC have either threatened to ban Ghana or actually gone ahead to ban us. The President, who claims to be a disciple of Kwame Nkrumah, has ensured that Ghana has been isolated for universal ridicule in Africa in particular, and across the world because of his new, strange ‘Dzi Wo Fie Asem’ Foreign policy, which has undermined regional and international efforts to put pressure on Laurent Gbagbo to quit,” Mr. Obetsebi-Lamptey reportedly said.
But speaking on e-TV’s Breakfast TV Newspaper Review, Samuel George said it is very worrying to see that the NPP has lost touch with reality and is suffering the effects of that syndrome.
“It is laughable for Jake to say that the President has reduced the image of Ghana internationally, even one of the papers is saying President Mills and John Mahama are one of the sought after personalities at the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting…You see my friends in the NPP have lost touch with reality and it is a very worrying syndrome and it is the characteristics of being in opposition,” he added.
The NDC activist wondered whether members of the opposition are indeed true-blooded Ghanaians considering their reaction towards national issues like the placing of a ban on Ghana by the International Olympic Committee.
