Mr. Kofi Opoku-Manu, removed as Ashanti Regional Minister

President Mills’ dismissal of the former Ashanti Regional Minister, Kofi Opoku Manu has been met with mixed reaction in the Ashanti Reaction.
Whilst the group of NDC activists who have been agitating for the removal of the minister for non performance and insensitivity to their needs are happy, his supporters are reported to be sad.
The Ashanti Regional Secretary of the NDC Joseph Yamin told Citi News that reshuffling of ministers is a normal occurrence in democracies and must therefore not be seen as victimizing anybody. President Mills on Wednesday announced the removal of the Ashanti Regional Minister and appointed one Dr Kwaku Agyemang Mensah to take over the region.
Speaking to Citi News Mr Yamin explained that some of the youth were concerned about the failure of Mr Opoku Manu to recognise party activists in the region.
“People were complaining about the Regional Minister, his understanding of politics especially within this part of our Region. The NDC in the Ashanti Region is like within the lions’s den so if you don’t have somebody who understands the politics of this region then you cannot be taking full control of this region and that is what the minister lacked”.
“Secondly, party people used to complain about him not being able to recognise party foot soldiers who really toiled for the region…I don’t think that was the basis for his removal but I think that it is time for maybe new blood to be injected into the administration of the party”.
