Former President of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG), Ebo Quansah, says Immediate Past Youth and Sports Minister Akua Sena Dansua could fail miserably at the Tourism Ministry if she continues her ‘war’ against journalists in the country.
The Minister’s desperate face-saving tactics, in which she accused sports journalists of taking bribes from her detractors to malign and scuttle her plans to develop the nation’s sports, has incurred the wrath of sports journalists in the country.
She has however failed to mention the names of such journalists and her stance has drawn a wave of vitriolic attacks from some sports journalists.
The North Dayi MP who was reassigned to the Tourism Ministry on Tuesday January 4, after her perceived abysmal performance as the first female Sports Minister, had a string of clashes with sports journalists in the country.
One would have thought that she would have taken her new post quietly and prove her sceptics wrong, rather she has reignited her fight against the very people who will project her activities and performances.
Metro TV’s Head of Sports, Christopher Opoku described the new Tourism Minister’s accusation as unfortunate and dared her to name the bribe takers since the act is an illegality.
Former SWAG President and Editor of the Chronicle Newspaper, Mr. Ebo Quansah who openly wrote an article against Akua Dansua’s appointment, told Citi News the woman is frustrated because she feels “used and damped” as a minister.
“I am not surprised at all because I knew the forces that brought her there. She was not brought there because she was the only person to do the job but she was there for a particular job. Apparently when she realised that people were pushing her too much, she decided to be her own woman. So those who brought her there and the various hawks within the party decided that they could no more use her and she must be dumped. That’s the frustration that is pushing her to make those allegations. I can tell you that it is especially the Pro-NDC media that were used against her and not the opposition media. I don’t know if some monies were taken but at least a section of the Pro-NDC media was used to hound her out” he said.
“As a Journalist (referring to Akua Sena Dansua) going into any Ministry, I think her first point of call must be journalists. Even if you are a Head of State and you antagonize journalists, your tenure will not be good for you. The best thing to do is to court journalists even if they are antagonistic. I think she is going to fail at the Tourism Ministry if she continues this media antagonism” he said.
GTV’s Sports Journalist Veronica Commey told Citi News the Minister will do the country a lot of good by mentioning the names of such recalcitrant journalists.
Renowned Sports Analyst Nana Agyemang said the comment was uncalled for but alluded to the fact that some journalists do take all forms of monies to perform certain duties
