Director of Communications for the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Central Region, Mr. Bernard Allotey Jacobs, has taken a swipe at the National Chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey, describing him as a failed minister who was reassigned once too many and therefore has no moral justification to comment on President Mills’ recent cabinet reshuffle.
The NPP National Chair reportedly styled the new list of government ministers announced by President Mills as a game of ‘musical chairs’, adding that the president just demonstrated his clout by rotating one Team B player from one end of the field to another.
To him, Ghanaians should not expect anything meaningful from the reassigned Ministers since they were unable to give a good account of themselves by performing inefficiently in their former ministerial portfolios.
Speaking on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo Morning Show, Mr. Allotey Jacobs claimed Mr. Obetsebi was compensated with the position of “Minister for Beautification of Accra” (Minister of Tourism and Modernization of the Capital) after he was removed as head of the Information Ministry. According to him, Mr. Obetsebi Lamptey was such a failure at his new office so much so that it led to the eventual collapse of that particular ministry.
“What is Jake saying, that President Mills is playing musical chairs? What is he talking about? He was even demoted from his previous Ministry to become Minister for Beautification of Accra…ridding Accra of goats and chickens, yes…beautifying Accra was more or less chasing after domestic animals…what happened to his ministry?” he fumed.
The outspoken Board Member of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) was categorical that the reshuffle is meant to give meaning to the Better Ghana Agenda and a clear indication of how the President is kick-starting the year 2011.
