Students of the Catholic University College of Ghana (CUCG) at Fiapre, near Sunyani in the Brong-Ahafo Region have appealed to the government and private business concerns to assist in rehabilitating the dusty five-kilometer-road that links the campus to Fiapre town.
The appeal was contained in a press statement signed by Michael Sumaila, President of the local branch of Private University Students Association of Ghana (PUSAG) and made available to the Ghana News Agency (GNA).
It said the road, which was the only entry and exit rout of the university needed reshaping and surfacing to ease the transportation difficulties that the students and other road users faced.
The statement explained that the road was not only untarred and dusty but also very narrow, posing a great danger to life and property. In an interview with the GNA, Sumaila added that the situation had caused a number of motor accidents saying between September and December this year alone about four accidents were recorded.
He said the latest one was a collision involving the Student Representative Council (SRC) 46-seater Daewoo bus and a taxi-cab. Sumaila said the cab driver sustained some injuries and was admitted at the Regional Hospital in Sunyani.
