Former Black Stars coach Milovan Rajevac could make a swift return to the Black Stars’ job as media reports suggest that the search committee of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) is favoring the Serbian’s return to the team.
The report further stated that majority of the FA search committee are in favor of the Serbian, who took Ghana to its first Nations Cup finals in 18 years and the quarter finals of the last World Cup in South Africa, to return and handle the team.
Rajevac, who has had a torrid time at Saudi Side Ittihad, was believed to have met some FA officials during the recent Glo CAF Awards to indicate his intention to return.
Though some FA officials were worried about the protest Ghanaians would make about Rajevac’s reinstatement, because he deserted the Black Stars for the lucrative Saudi deal, they were unperturbed in getting him the Stars job.
On the other hand, the former France captain, Marcel Desailly is set to be getting support from the Minister of Sports and some high-powered government officials even though he backed out at the last moment.
The three shortlisted coaches for the Stars’ job, Serbian Goran Stevanovic, Portuguese Humberto Coelho and Ghanaian Herbert Addo, who were interviewed in December 2010 to replace Rajevac, DAILY GUIDE SPORTS sources suggest, did not live up to expectation.
Fred Pappoe, Vice President of the Ghana Football Association commented on Joy Sports that the search team had not ruled out the possibility of head hunting if they were dissatisfied with the three shortlisted coaches.
The GFA promised to name a new coach for the World Cup quarter-finalists by December 31, 2010 after interviewing the three managers for the vacant post.
The FA was keen on naming the new coach ahead of the New Year to ensure that the new boss would have enough time to monitor players but it failed to do so.
MTNFootball.com earlier reported that the process was delayed because some government agents were still angling for the appointment of Marcel Desailly even though the former France captain had pulled out of the race.
