The Government of Ghana and Korean Construction firm STX, will on Tuesday December 14, sign the formal agreement for the construction of 30,000 housing units for Ghana’s security services.
The signing is to be witnessed by Vice President John Dramani Mahama, the President of STX Corporation and the Chairman of STX Group.
Dr. Hannah Bissiw, Deputy Minister for Water Resources who confirmed this to Citi News said a date will soon be announced after the signing for the sod-cutting ceremony to kick start the project. “We are going to sign the Suppliers Credit Agreement which will be done by the Finance Minister and then the EPC Agreement to be done by the Works and Housing Minister and the Korean counterparts. So these two documents will be signed before a date will be set aside for the sod-cutting to commence the project” she said.
The signing of the much-talked about housing deal between the government of Ghana and Korea, suffered a major setback on Monday September 20, 2010. The Minister for Water Resources, Mr. Alban Bagbin and a delegation from STX Korea could not sign the deal at the Osu Castle, due to some legal discrepancies.
The signing was to pave way for the initial construction of 30, 000 housing units for the country’s security services out of a total of 200,000 units to be constructed over a five year period.
However, Dr. Hannah Bissue says all the legal issues have been corrected.
