A one-year-old baby girl died instantly when a Benz Splinter bus she was traveling on with her nursing mother somersaulted after clashing into a taxi at Bekwai in the Ashanti region.
Except the little girl, all those onboard the taxi and the bus sustained injuries and they were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment. Narrating the incident to Daily Guide, Richard Karikari of Otec FM, who was at the scene, said the accident occurred at 2pm some few days ago around the Bekwai SDA Senior High School area.
The Takoradi-bound Splinter bus from the Kumasi direction was fully loaded with passengers. KK said the taxi was also heading towards the Bekwai SDA SHS from the Bekwai township.
Suddenly, the taxi crossed the Splinter bus, which was on the main road, resulting in the fatal accident. The bus somersaulted about three times before landing.
Meanwhile, Daily Guide gathered that Bekwai is gradually becoming an accident prone area. Residents of the area are accusing drivers of speeding on the asphalted road. They are therefore calling on authorities to construct speed ramps on the road.
