Yaw Boateng Gyan: NPP Justified For Not Honouring NEF Invitation If…

The National Organizer of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) has said that if indeed the invitation to the National Economic Forum went to the biggest opposition party late, then, they are somewhat justified for not honouring it because “they would have been made spectators”.

According to Yaw Boateng Gyan, “if it is true that that is what happened, then it is unfortunate because if they (NPP) had honoured it, they would have been spectators and not participants”.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) turned down an invitation to a non-partisan conference dubbed, National Economic Forum, with the aim of reaching a consensus on the solutions to the numerous problems facing Ghana’s economy.

Though the NPP believes that in principle, a forum such as the National Economic Dialogue brings together stakeholders to share ideas and deliberate on matters regarding the economy, they opposition party opines its a calculated attempt by the government to hide the real state of the economy from Ghanaians.

“The supposed National Economic Forum is really intended to be a PR gimmick calculated to keep the people of Ghana in the dark about the real state of the economy,” a statement from the NPP Headquarters read.

The party also complained about the fact that the invitation to this all important program, which kicked off in Akosombo on Tuesday, 13th May, 2014, was received on Friday, 9th May, 2014, and it came without the supporting base document.

This, the party finds unacceptable because enough time is needed for research into the topical areas, in order to make meaningful contribution to the forum.

However, critics have described the boycott of the event, as politically dangerous and expose the immaturity of the leaders of the NPP.

But in an interview with NEAT FM, Yaw Boateng Gyan is of the view that, if the reasons adduced by the NPP for the boycott is anything to go by, then the late arrival of the invitation, “is unfortunate”.
