About 360 Police constables, Lance Corporals, Corporals and Sergeants have converged on the Police Training School at Patase in Kumasi to write promotion examinations.

The participants would be taken through an extensive course mainly on modern ways of policing and combating crime after which they would be assessed on Saturday to determine those who excelled.

Addressing the participants during the official opening of the 2014 Police Promotional Examination, DCOP Kofi Boakye, the Ashanti Regional Police Commander, said legally police personnel are required to write examinations for their promotion.

He noted that any police officer that would fail the assessment examination would not be promoted, stressing the need for police personnel to always enhance their knowledge.

DCOP Boakye announced that henceforth police personnel that undertake visibility and motor traffic duties would not be permitted to use phone during working hours.

He said a taskforce had been formed to arrest culprits for necessary sanctions to be taken.

DCOP Boakye also announced that police and military personnel in the region have also been banned from using unlicensed cars during weekends and public holidays, noting that nobody was above the law.

He said since members of the public obey the laws on unlicensed cars, it was incumbent on the police and the military personnel to adhere to the laws.

The Ashanti Regional Police Commander said the promotional course would help the participants to be abreast with modern policing, urging the police personnel to take the course seriously.

Chief Supt. Abiba Twumasi Sarpong, Head of Community Police Unit, said there is no free promotion in the Ghana Police Service and charged the participants to take the week’s course seriously in order to earn promotion.
