A total of 1,700 Malians were evacuated from the troubled Central African Republic as at March 17, through operations carried out jointly by the Malian government and the International Migration Organisation.
This is according to an official statement, made available to PANA in Bamako on Tuesday.
Some 62 Ivorians, Senegalese and Burkinabe nationals were also airlifted during the Mali operation, following cooperation from their diplomats.
In addition to the West African nationals, 13 CAR citizens, who pretended to be Malians, were also evacuated and are now applying to be regarded as refugees.
The application to be regarded as refugees is to enable them benefit from assistance from the specialised organisations like the UN High Commission for Refugees.
