Following the siege of Citi FM‘s offices by several muscled men on Saturday November 24th in an attempt to “deal with” lawyer Egbert Faibille, several political parties have voiced their objection to the act.
According to the parties, the action was wrong and should be condemned.
The Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Jake Obetsebi Lamptey told Citi News that Hassan Ayariga’s actions were indicative of his double standards on issues of peace.
“It should be expounded of the hypocrisy of Mr. Hassan Ayariga in that he should be the one who is loudest in advocating peace.”
Mr. Obetsebi Lamptey condemned Mr. Ayariga saying, “he is the one on whose behalf thugs acted against the media. It brings into question his whole credentials for talking about anything at all and I think the media should take him on… the media should be taking a stance. It is not a first time the media has been attacked in this way.”
On his part, the Propaganda Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Richard Quarshigah described the situation unfortunate especially with a few days to the general elections.
“It’s most unfortunate that these acts of violence seem to have reared its ugly head just when we are preparing towards the polls. We are all asking people to do well to ensure a peaceful election so these issues are worrying and we must, as much as we can, avoid them so that our elections can be clean,” he advised.
According to the Progressive People’s Party’s (PPP) Communication Director, Richmond Keelson, the act should be generally condemned.
“This course of impunity where people, when they disagree with you, organize people to manhandle you is something that I thought was very much pronounced during the so called revolutionary days. It is really bad,” he said.
He added that the issue could have been addressed in many ways “and not necessarily to attack him [Egbert Faibille] physically.”
Meanwhile, aide of PNC presidential candidate Hassan Ayariga, has justified the flagbearer’s actions of sending thugs to the premises of Citi FM to intimidate Lawyer Egbert Faibille Jnr.
“I am so disappointed. The whole concentration is on what the flagbearer said but people are not bothered about what Egbert Faible said. For us as a people, what we should be discussing is the first point of call and the first point of call should be laid on Egbert Faible who made very unpalatable description against the flagbearer.”
