Kwabena Agyapong’s accident will not earn him any sympathy votes – Yaw Buaben Asamoah
An aspirant for New Patriotic Party (NPP) General Secretary believes delegates won’t vote for his opponent just to sympathize with him for a near-fatal accident he suffered a few days to the congress.
“Sympathy votes will not count. What if they vote for him and he can’t work?” Yaw Buaben Asamoah conjectured on Asempa FM Thursday.
Aspiring NPP General Secretary, Kwabena Agyapong flirted with death last Tuesday after his a Toyota Prado got involved in an accident which has left his campaigner photographer in critical condition.
The accident occurred on the Accra-Nsawam road.
Incumbent General Secretary Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie also known as ‘Sir John’ who is also seeking re-election announced, he had suspended his campaign in deference to Kwabena Agyapong whom he visited at 37 Military Hospital.
Kwabena Agyapong has since been enjoying an avalanche of well-wishers touched by his unfortunate incident.
Joining the well-wishing queue is colleague aspirant, Yaw Buaben Asamoah. He said “my prayer is that he (Kwabena Agyapong) should get well soon”.
He was nonetheless quick in downplaying any suggestions his accident could trigger sympathy votes, YB as he is affectionately called said “The NPP does not operate on such basis”.
Explaining on the Accra-based radio station, the once-time spokesperson for the NPP during the election petition last year said “If NPP delegates want Kwabena Agyapong as their secretary, they will vote for him…but for now he is not the chosen one.
“He will not win the race because of his accident. The delegates know who they want…they will not vote based on what has happened,” he is reported on peacefomonline as saying.
A critical section of the New Patriotic Party is in Tamale for the party’s National Delegates Conference scheduled for Saturday, April 12, 2014.
The congress will choose national executives who will later organize another congress to elect a flagbearer for the 2016 Presidential elections.
