The Commissioner of Police in Kano, Adenrele Shinaba has revealed that the police have arrested some terrorists involved in the multiple bomb blasts that killed dozens of people on 18 March, 2013 at the New Road Luxury Motor Park in Sabon Gari area of the state.
Speaking to journalists at the police headquarters in Bompai on Thursday, June 5, Shinaba said investigations into the blast is in top gear and they are making efforts to apprehend more terrorists, adding that the police have made a breakthrough in their investigation of the blasts.
According to him, the police will not rest until they get to the root of the matter.
He explained that agents of the Department of State Services (DSS) and soldiers in a joint raid impounded improvised explosive devices (IEDs) at Medile Quarters in Kumbotso Local Government Area, Kano. Other items recovered include primed explosives of three fabricated air conditioner coolants, hand grenades made with cans of drinks, two fabricated fire extinguisher containers built with electronic switch, four pieces of tear-gas cartridges, two gas cylinders as well as three fabricated Turkey oil containers with electric components built to be detonated by remote control.
He said if not for the expertise displayed by the police anti-bomb squad, the explosives which were already primed would have killed the security men that went on the raid and Kano city would have been devastated.
Shinaba also disclosed that in the early hours of Thursday, his men foiled plans by hoodlums to vandalize the MTN facility at Bebeji area of the state where criminals successfully removed 39 batteries concealed inside tomato baskets.
He added that following raids by security agents, incidences like armed robbery and rape have reduced drastically.
He called on the public to continue praying for the continued peace and progress of the state and the nation, in general.
You would recall that there were multiple bomb blasts at New Road Park, Sabon Gari, Kano last year.
